What are assessment grants?
The Office of Assessment and Evaluation offers several types of funding opportunities to meet the varying assessment needs of faculty and administrators. These grants are designed to facilitate the development of assessment skills and abilities; engagement in assessment “best practices"; and engagement in the scholarship of teaching, learning, and assessment. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.
Assessment Travel Grants (Two Categories)
- Assessment Education Grants support faculty in the beginning stages of assessment work who are interested in professional development opportunities related to student learning outcomes assessment. These opportunities may be discipline-specific or geared toward a broader audience (e.g., general education, undergraduate education themed conferences). Teams of faculty are encouraged to apply. Maximum funding: $600 per individual, not to exceed $1,800 per team.
- Assessment Dissemination Grants support faculty already engaged in assessment work to present their findings related to student learning outcomes. These opportunities may be discipline-specific or geared toward a broader audience (e.g., general education, undergraduate education themed conferences). Applicants must verify IRB approval of their study prior to distribution of funding. For information related to research involving human subjects, please see the IRB website: www.irb.vt.edu. Maximum funding: $700 per presenter, not to exceed $2100 per presentation team.
Assessment Practices Grants (Three Categories)
Assessment Practices Grants facilitate partnering between faculty/programs and the Office of Assessment and Evaluation. Maximum funding: $2,000 per proposal.
- Essential Learning Outcomes Grants support outcomes assessment activities using the 15 AAC&U VALUE rubrics (www.aacu.org/value)
- High-Impact Practices Grants support outcomes assessment of established high-impact educational practices (e.g., undergraduate research, internships, collaborative projects, capstone experience, service learning).
- Innovations Grants support outcomes assessment in programs using other approaches and/or instrumentation.
